SmartTime! App Reviews

A good idea poorly implemented

Ive used this app for over a year now and was initially willing to put up with the inconsistencies, slowness, infrequent crashes, and other oddities. Over the year, the app seemed to get slower and slower and finally almost unusable (I dont like the idea of planning ahead to check my calender -- very slow). I downloaded GooCall and am much more satisfied.

Good Concept Poor Quality

Extremely buggy app. Continuous crashing upon attempted syncs. No customer service- Ive been waiting over a month for a response. Ive had this app for a long time, itd unfortunate it continues to get worse.

Waste of money!

This app is just bad.

Used to Love it

I used to love this App. So much so that I was relying on it as my sole calendar and date book....and then just recently I tried to open it and got a blank white screen and now all of my information that I had been putting into it for a year has been lost...everything....this app kind of screwed me... i really wish there was a way to recover my information...

Add clients

I bought this app before I realized that it was not compatible with Exchange or the native calendar client. I love The concept but it does not execute in a practical manner for my use at this time. :(

Best app ever but crashes some times

Best app ever to get things done and follow up on events. Since tasks are cumbersome to both developers and analysts alike what I do is treat everything as events. All the tasks show up as events but I tag tasks to a project as tasks in the app just like we have some default projects in the app like work and recreation. One request for developers/analysts is to provide a feature to save the filter settings. Once again awesome app. I hate seeing so many products alike like the smartcal etc that are just redundant and dont have some key features like smarttime.

Stand alone app

Great stand alone app. Could not get google calendar synch to work. even has a separate item saying how bit it does not work. Says I should rename the events in my google categories. NO if you say it works with existing Calais then it should As is.

great until it started crashing...

I was very pleased with an app that told me what to do using gcal synced wirelessly. It worked perfectly with my attempt at integrating GTD ideas into my project workflows. Then something happened and now it crashes EVERY SINGLE TIME I TRY TO SYNC IT. I waited for a while to see if theyd fix it with an update, but I havent seen any help for a while. Im hoping theyll come out with a fix soon, cause Id love to keep using this fantastic app idea!

DO NOT BUY THIS APP

If you want to synch with Google, forget about it. This app no longer does that. It just crashes. I was told MONTHS ago that they would be fixing it, but nothing so far, and this is not the first time this has happened. Whenever Google updates their calendar program, the app starts crashing and you have to wait forever for a fix. When it is actually working its a great app, but it has only worked about half the time since I purchased it and thats just not a "smart" use of "time." FAIL!

Useless!

The app is a great concept but its poorly executed. The interface is slow & clunky. There is no support for recurring to-dos (ie, you want something on your to do list to repeat once a week). It doesnt distinguish between hard deadlines that are set in stone & more flexible deadlines. So if you have too much to do & the app needs to move things around, your only option is to let it ignore all deadlines. There is no priority system either for scheduling your tasks. It doesnt sync with your iPhones calendars & syncing with your google calendar requires a manual to understand. I could go on, but simply put, there are much better organizers out there.

Sync does not work !!

I agree with all reviewers that initially the app worked great but not only is the sync flawed but also if you set up repeating events there are errors with dates/days of the week/ times.

Still does not work with Google app accounts!

Bought this app over a yer ago and havent been able to use it. If I would have known it didnt work with Google app accounts, I wouldnt have bought it. The support isnt good at all, I even asked if there was a problem with Google apps accounts and got no response. It s a good concept and wished it would have worked.

Does not work anymore.

Dont waste your time/money!

iOS 5 Calendar renders SmartTime obsolete

The main reason I was still using this app was because of their nice UI for the week view. I just discovered the week view in iOS 5, which renders SmartTime obsolete. Keep reading if interested in other issues with SmartTime that came up: I stopped using the 2-way sync mode between SmartTime and Google Calendar because I found that doing so deleted data from Google Calendar. Consequently, I resorted to a one-way sync (Google Calendar-->SmartTime) only. In fairness, maybe the sync issue is resolved, but I didnt want to take a chance losing my data again. SmartTime had its season of usefulness: the week view UI is nicer-looking than the native iOS calendar, it allows you to see all 7 days in landscape mode (albeit in small font, but is still readable); has more functionality than iOS calendar (e.g., SmartTime allows you to go to a specific date one year or 2 years later--with iOS cal, you have to scroll through the monthly calendar or weekly view to get to your specific date, or start a new entry with a specific date). Furthermore, iOS cal is limited to viewing 3 days at a time in week view (landscape), but font is larger, and the design is more consistent with iCal. There were other issues that came up with SmartTime both in my iPod touch 1G, 4G and iPhone 4, but theres no sense putting it here anymore since Im abandoning the app.

Nice update

Very innovative to put tasks directly into the iPhone calendar. I like it. Also happy with the other changes including the ability to show/hide different calendars. Excellent support also; I just chatted with them live from their web site. As for effort, uniqueness, performance, and customer service.

If you just want a calendar...

Use the iPhone calendar. This app takes it to a different level. It took a while to understand what it does - it actually puts your to-dos into the calendar also. Once I got the hang of it, WOW. Ill never go back to a normal task list again. The best design out there.

Helpful Customer Service

My husband and I are constantly on the go and we run separate businesses. We keep our own schedules but it is important for us to share a common calendar so we can see who is doing responsible for picking up the kids, etc. That was my only gripe about SmartTime, but now it has been fixed. Heres a tip: Create a new appointment in SmartTime using a shared calendar, and set up an SMS alert. Both my husband and I will receive the alert. Its a good way for me to remind him that he has to stop off at the store and get milk... Update: love the new "live chat" on their web site. I actually chatted with the guy who created it!

Good just got better

Im so glad they solved the Google sync problem by going directly to the iPhone. Cool to have tasks in there too.

Love the "Snooze" alerts

Thanks for great customer service and continuing to update the app. Love the sync improvements and improved alerts. Great app. I have some ideas how to make this even better and I put them on the forum. I also discussed my ideas with them online (they have a live chat thing). Heres what I suggested: Context filters Location-based filters Sync with their upcoming web app iPad version Thats it!

App is a bust

The only thing this app has going for it is very beautiful UI. Thats it. Every time I try to use it, it malfunctions some way. If you want a great calendar that allows you to put your tasks in with events use POCKET INFORMANT, its the best Ive found and it syncs with ios5 automatically. It doesnt put task into ios5 but it does events. The nice thing about PI is that it works and it does so much more than ST. Try it, youll love it. BTW- I dont work for PI, Im just a user. Good Luck in your search for the perfect calendar.
